Cleaned metal surface showing the effects of oxygen corrosion

DESCRIPTION

WSB EB is a highly effective combination product on basis of liquid blend of oxygen scavenger and metal passivator.

WSB EB is an oxygen scavenger that works rapidly, effectively and safely to passivate deaerators, feedwater systems and boilers. It also reduces feedwater iron levels and insulating iron deposits on boiler tubes to help minimize fuel wastage.

The major ingredients in WSB EB are sodium erythorbate as oxygen scavenger and metal passivator, di-hydroxy-benzene (Hydroquinone) as catalyst, and Morpholine as decharacterizing agent.

What are erythorbates?

Erythorbates are food ingredients that inhibit the change of flavor and color in food when exposed to air, such as when a cut apple is exposed to air.

Produced from sugar, erythorbates are similar in chemical structure to vitamin C.

Two forms of erythorbates, erythorbic acid and sodium erythorbate, are commonly used in hot dogs, luncheon meats, cured meats, fresh pork, poultry, frozen bananas, dehydrated apples and other foods.

Erythorbates are classified by the FDA as GRAS (absolutely safe as food ingredients), and have been used for more than 30 years.

Both erythorbates are reacting with oxygen, for final byproducts carbon dioxide and intermediate lactates. They are also reacting with Ferric ion to Ferrous ion and Cupric to Cuprous. They are passiivating Iron by reducing Fe2O3 to Fe3O4.

BENEFITS

WSB EB benefits include:

  • Highly effective, liquid organic, non-steam volatile oxygen binding media on basis of sodium ascorbate.
  • This product is especially suitable for use in non thermally deaerated feed waters, in the food and pharmaceutical industry and for direct steaming.
  • Increases equipment life by minimizing pitting corrosion.
  • Reduces energy cost by minimizing insulating iron oxide deposit.
  • Reduces deterioration of the steam and condensate lines by minimizing oxygen infiltration from the boilers.
  • The catalyst accelerates oxygen removal.
  • Helps protect the pre-boiler system and the boiler from unscheduled downtime due to oxygen corrosion
  • Enhances metal passivation of iron and copper, minimizing metal corrosion and resultant boiler deposition; can result in extended equipment life
  • Does not require specialized feed systems — liquid product minimizes housekeeping and mixing problems
  • Contributes no measurable solids to the boiler, so blowdown levels on sulfite programs can often be reduced — a significant energy savings
  • Highly effective alkalization media and corrosion inhibitor for steam and condensate systems.
  • Non contains free caustic, so does not induces carry over or caustic attack, under overfeed conditions, or when incoming oxygen levels will be lowered
  • Ingredients are in compliance with FDA and USDA regulations pertaining to boiler water additives
  • The Catalyst and the Decharacterizing agent complies with FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulations, pertaining to boiler water additives.
  • Non induces dangerous or corrosive gases to the steam, like sulfur dioxide, acetic acid, MEK or Hydrazine.
  • Ready to react as it is and does not require thermal activation like Meta Bisulfites, Methyl Ethyl Ketoxime and Carbohydrazide does.

APPLICATIONS

WSB EB Boiler Treatment is used to treat steam boilers at pressures up to 1000 psig.

DOSAGE

WSB EB dosage varies according to make-up, feedwater temperature, whether a dearator is used or not, etc.

As a general rule, feed WSB EB at the level of 25 ppm per ppm Oxygen to be removed. For Deaerated feed water, use 1 ppm of WSB EB in feed water.

Dosages should be adjusted to maintain a residual erythorbate range of 0.5 - 5 ppm in boiler.

For optimum protection of your system, consult your Water Services Ltd representative for other recommendations.

FEEDING

WSB EB must be fed into the feedwater tank or dearator (below the water line). Entrance to the feed point must be via a stainless steel quill extending beyond the internal surface of the tank.

WSB EB should be fed neat, however where dilution is required use cooled condensate (<100 o F) or softened water.

WSB EB should be fed via a chemical pump, in proportion to steam load or water make-up, using a water meter contactor and timer assembly, to prevent wild fluctuations in the chemical levels.

Material Compatibility - Polyethylene, mild steel, and stainless steel. Do not use yellow metal alloys, aluminum, and zinc.

MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET

For information concerning typical properties, health hazard, flammability, reactivity, please consult the product material safety data sheet.

Handling precautions

Wear suitable gloves and safety goggles. In case of contact immediately flush with plenty of water. After eye contact seek medical advice.

In case of spillage, absorb with sand or other absorbent materials and sweep up. Then flush the area with water.

Before use review the Material Safety Data Sheet for additional information.
