Removal of biofilms The best action against biofilms is the precaution of non-creation. This can be done by a proper application of microbiological control against planktonic cells. Even under the best protective conditions, it is a matter of time the biofilm formation. After biofilm establishment, the effectiveness of the microbiocides/ biodispersants drops dramatically. The requirement in toxicant becomes very high, and even that the control is poor. It is preferable to try to remove or destroy the biofilms rather than to control their population. Biofilm can be removed and/or destroyed by chemical and physical treatments. |
